For this first series, we have imagined a unique collection that deconstructs and revisits Berber symbols to offer those who discover it a journey through the senses. LALLA creations were imagined with textile designer Diane Villeneuve and made by Berber weavers from the Middle Atlas.

What does the word LALLA mean?

The name Lalla designates “a respected, holy woman”. In the Amazigh language, the word Lalla also means "big sister", "older sister". A term also used in Darija (Maghreb dialect) as a synonym for "Madam". The LALLA collection is aptly named, because we wanted to pay tribute to these wonderful women, guardians of a rich and unique Berber heritage, by working on some of the symbols they use in berber rugs , in tattoos bodies or on pots, walls and doors.

Why revisit Berber symbols and how?

This is a meaningful project, because I think these symbols deserve a place in contemporary decorative art. Giving these symbols a second life by playing with geometry and colors is a way of accompanying a cultural heritage that has remained frozen for a long time. I therefore wanted through this collection that these symbols be (re)discovered and interpreted under new angles: Each symbol used has been shaped in a spirit of grace and gentleness, while taking care to preserve its original meaning.
