Our Berber rugs are made from premium quality lambswool. hand dyed in the Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco. We recommend regular maintenance to preserve the quality of your carpet. Here are our cleaning tips:
Use a vacuum cleaner in gentle brushing mode at least once a week: The carpet is used every day and that is why it must be cleaned regularly so that dust does not become embedded in the fibers. You don't have to wait for it to be stained to want to clean it.
Deep clean regularly: Once a month or two.
Let the dust fall to the floor naturally: You don't want to use the vacuum cleaner, so in these conditions, just turn your carpet over and trample it on the back, it should be left like this for two to three days, so and quite naturally, the dust will settle on the ground by gravity. You can place wedges on the ground to lift it and thus dissociate the wool of the carpet from the ground.
Use a damp towel with Marseille soap and/or a special wool product: If your carpet is stained with coffee, sauce, chocolate, you must immediately clean the stain on the wool and, to do this, you must sponge the stain and then pass a little Marseille soap or a special household product for wool carpets. It is necessary to make gentle and regular movements so as not to attack the carpet and to remove the stain. Check color fastness before testing on a small area of carpet. Then let the rug dry in the sun.
White vinegar and warm water: For stubborn stains, white vinegar and warm water will be a good compromise to loosen the carpet. You can also use soil from Sommiers which are very suitable for old and valuable carpets. Terre de Sommiers is a natural clay that has a good stain-removing power.
Baking soda and sparkling water: For the most encrusted stains, take sparkling water and rub gently with a wrung-out sponge. Thirty minutes after this operation, sprinkle the stains with baking soda, when the powder is dry, vacuum. Baking soda is a good product for cleaning the wool carpet, in case of slightly stubborn stains, do not hesitate to use this recipe.
It is better to avoid detergents: Unless the task really requires it, but under these conditions, always test the product on a discreet part of the wool of the carpet before proceeding with the complete cleaning, because, alas, removing a stain is so often a halo on the carpet, which requires it to be completely cleaned.
After a good cleaning, you need a good drying in the sun: (balcony, garden, window, terrace), in the open air for this is the best ingredient. The carpet must be very dry before it finds its place in the heart of the house. A poorly dried carpet could quickly become a nest of moths and give off a bad smell.
No washing machine: If your washing machine is big enough to wash your rug in, then don't! Berber rugs are handcrafted products and softness is therefore essential for this long-term work that the weavers have done. For a cleaning in the rules of the art you can also call on professionals on cleaning.
